The Oyster Captains’ Association met Monday night—Captain Lewis in the chair, with C. W. Thomas secretary. Various mat- ters pertaining to the putting in suecessfal operation the new system of furnishing oysters to our markets were discussed, after Which the following new members signed the articles of the association and were en- Tolled:—C. Anamendment Was made to the constitution, making a three-fourth vote necessary for the election of new members. Captain Sturges requested to be informed as to what action the asso- e le of oysters at the wharves on the Lord’s day; he thought something should be done. Heretofore there had been no concerted action. Most of the capiains were oppo:ed to if: yet there were some who would te gon their batehways and supply the demand on Sunday; consequently, they rea) the it, while those who declined doing so reugh conscientious scruples were the losers. He did not believe that any one Pr ge by it in the long run, yet it would be tter toestablish a system more in conso- mance with the moral and religious senti+ ment of the public, and all would profit thereby in the long run, as the demand for oysters would be’ just as t and consumers would soon learn to in their sopely for Sunday on Saturday. c A. J. Lewis took the same view of the case, and said he did not think any man made anything by desecrating the Sabbath day. He wished ‘0 show the public that the men engaged in oyster dredging were not an immoral and reckless set, as is supposed, but that they are gentlemen. Mr. A. B. ‘Warren submitted a resolution discounte- pancing “the sale or offering for sale of oys- ters ov Sundays, believing the practice to be demoralizing in its influences and against the plain teachings of the word of God.” The resolution was discussed by Captains Fleury, Tasker. Tyler and otbers, when the views of Mr. Leisbear, tne consignee, were solicited. He stated that the resolution was in perect barmony with bis sentimen!s, and it met his hearty approval. Un putting it toa vote it Was adopted unanimously, and a committee of three was appointed to communicate this action to the absent members. An informal discassion was here held on various topics of de.ail connected with carrying out thenew system adopted, and congratulations were exchanged at the prospects of better times. —e—_ MUSICAL AND DRAMATIC.— Ticxtore Thomas’ Orchestral Concert at Lincoln Hali last evening called forth one of the mo=t re attentive audiences ever within its Walls. The excellence of programme resented by Mr. Thomas only equaled yy the warm enthusiasm of t! > andience, which through his instramentaiity has beea educated to understand and appreciate the immorta! works of Beethoven, ‘n, Gluck and Wagner, composers of the highest order in the art. Every selectionon last evening's programme elicited rounds of applause. Tae any srierds of the cultivated and careial artisie, Madame Antoinette Sterling, gladly Welcomed her reappearance in this iyo and ber reception must have convinced her of their sincerity. Her selections were admira. bly suited to her grand contralto voice, and the two venement encores to Barnby’s i “When the Tide Comes In” were aptly re- sponded to in the “Lullaby” song of Scott, a@nd the “Thre Fishers,” always @ favorite. This evening every seat should be filled. Beethoven's sth symphony. Wagner's Tann- hauser,and Rubenstein's Ballet-musie and ‘Wedding Procession, with beautiful songs by Madame Sterling, are promised. Tre Shakspeare Club.—One of the largest and most fashionable audiences of the season a3- setnbied last evening at Ford’s Opera House, the occasion being & complimentary enter- tainment by the Sha Club. “The ‘World of Fashion” was performed admira- bly, and the club deserves great credit for the really excellent cast of the comedy. Mr. Jefferson, Mr. Carusi. Miss McConnell and Miss K. Schmidt are deserving of speciai mention, although all reflected great credit upon themselves and the club. The enter- tainment concluded with a farce in one act, entitled “One Too Many for Him.” Among the ee ene = last evening were President Grant, Vice President Ferry and the Attorney General. National Theater—Mr. John T. Baymond drew another very large audience last night. and bis impersonation of ‘Colonel Sellers’ ‘Was fully appreciated.
