A lady, whom Snyder said was his . came to see him about twice a week. was a Jewess in appearance, oC medium ht and build, dark balr andeyes, Roman She was there last the day Snyder was released. Spyder was that day dressed in a dark or black business suit. Witness produced the commitment and the discharge. MARSHAL ECKLOFF’S TESTIMONY. E. C. Be marshal of the Police Court, | SwWorn.— Witness committed Snyder to jail | { | for the ensuing year . Brandebary, pre- | . Morgs » president; James retary; Win. P. C. Hazen, noon & t for a further bearing; never saw him again until after he (S.) had given bail; previously he bad been ordered by the clerk to release him; as Spyder was going out the remark was made, “That is a good bond—Edes;” there were several parties preseat, among them Mr. Leighton, and Mr. L. made tne remark; several parties were in the room, but don't think any were about Leighton’s desk; recollects Mr. Evans and Mr. Barton being there, but don't recollect Fisher being witness knew of @ note having been received from the District Attorney's office: Witness was busy with his books at the time; did not hear anything said by Leigtton or in | iis hearing about releasing Snyder, except | the order to bring the man out. :—The clerk was absent, and so was the judge; the deputy clerk, | (Leigbton,) Mr. rton, (messenger,) and | Witness were the only officials of the court resent; Judge Snell was at that time absent rom the city, and Judge Mills was holding court, but this was done after the business of the day was over; the order from Leighton to bring Snyder out was verbal; witness ide out the release, and he identified the me. Re-direct:—It was in the neighborhood of 2 o’clock; witness explained his absence yes- lerday by saying that he had never been summoned until this morning, and when sent for yesterday he was at the court, and the ballif! went to police headquarters for him. GREEN IDENTIFIED AS THE BO: EDES. Henwy Berton (messenger in the Police Court) eworn:—Kecollects the day Snyder was discharged. This man Green went into the court-room by the upper door with Evans, aud witness was at the lower door; heard the man give the name of Edes and say his property was in Georgetown; thinks the man was Sworn, and heard the usual questions put to him as to the vaine of his property; thinks he safd {t was worth <12,000, That is the man (pointing to Green) who personated Edes. He was neatly but not dressed then; his moustache blacker ou 1 darker than now. Next saw Green in Baltimore, in hisshop. Witness went in and asked for a shampoo, and while it was being doue witness misled him by saying he was a cattle drover from the wesi. Saw nim again in U.S. Commissioner Rogers’ office, in Baltimore; knows the prisouer by a scar on bts neck, whieh witness noticed at the Police Court. Witness was asked to point it out, ard after examining the left jawbone he said. “There is the scar, but the whiskers cover it.” Cross-examined :— Messrs. Sargent and McElfresh got witness to go to Baltimor the court, when the bail was given, had d Green entered by the door near the marsbai’s desk, about 1s feet from where he (Witness) was; Mr. Evans, he thinks, asked the preliminary questions first; “saw the scar as plainly asIsee your giasses.” Col. Cook, (nolding bis glasses near the neck of Green.)—-Do you see it now?” Wit- ©. Sir; but if there was ro beard there I eould.” Evans stood between the marsbal and the clerk at the time. Is snre that the mustache and hair of Green were ‘kK. and that he had no whiskers. Lacey came in about the time they went oat. Wit- ness, when in Green's shop, did not see the sear: could not get a sight at it. The reason he observed Green 50 SF Was because Evans had brought “Lum” Fearson to go bail for Curran, and he (f.) turned out to be Straw bail, and he did not wish to see Evans get into @ position where he would be cen- snred. Witness is as certain that Green is the party @s that the counsel is William A. Cook; never saw but two other faces like Green’s—one that of a colonel ef artillery, and the other that of a German professor of languages. Witness wears glasses for read. ins. Judge Snell was the judge of the court; thinks that Jadge Mills heid the court that day, but at this time the court had adjourned. WHAT LACEY KNOWS ABOUT IT. Henry Lacey vestified that he was in the Police Court oa the 20th of August; while there endeavoring to secure the release of parties in jail saw a gentleman come in and enter into recognizance in $3,000; and subse- quently saw aman said tobe Snyder enter recognizance. First saw the bailor on the steps with Mr. Evans; saw Leighton present @ bible to the party and heard the name Edes called. Saw the man in Baltimore after- wards; thinks that is the man (pointing at Green). Messrs. Eckloff, Leighton, ani thinks Mr. Rhodes were present at the time, Mr. Evans was in the room and Judge Mills had just comeout. Cross-examined:—The man is changed Somewhat since witness saw lim at tne Police Court—his hair being now lighter and whiskers fuller, aud the mark now is coy- ered. Witness saw Green but three or four minutes at the Police Court. Witness wentto Baltimore with Detectives Sargent and McElfresh to see the man and identify bim; first saw him on the street with two gentlemen. Wituess liad been requested by the officers to state who were present at the time and he gavethe name of Jas. Leonard. Kedirect:—Witness saw the mark on the side of the lower jaw bone or neck at the Police Court, and saw it again in Baltimore at the examination before Commissioner Rogers. CUMULATIVE EVIDENCE. George W. Eddy Slater:— Witness was em - ployed in Mr. Evans’ office iu August last; saw Green twice before, in Evans’ office, two or three days before he went bail. Mrs. Spy- der and Mr. Fisher. assistant attoraey, came in just after him. They were there but a little while. Witness had been frequently sent to the jail by Mrs. Snyder with things for Sny- der. They asked on the Orst day for Pyans, and he (witness) went out and told them, bat he did not come, saying that be did not want tosee him. The second time Fisher engaged in conversation with Green, while Mrs. Mil ler went to the. Ver brcoeer nen husband. Fisher and Green ed together, and Fisher went out, but returned, and F. asked where the oe rty was, and he (G.) said it was on i! street, and was worth $5,000 or $25,000. When Evans came in Mrs. Miller said, “Here is a man who will go my husband's ball,” and Evans said th: it they would have and Where he lived at that the property was in GREEN LOOKS LIKE THE MAN. GREEN AT THE DEPOT IN BALTIMORE. Detective Albert Gault, of Baltimore, tes- Uifed that he has Known Green for four rs or more; knows Miller or Snyder, also Mrs. Miller. Saw Mrs. Miller on the 9th of August last and called Detective Hall's at- tention to her. They followed her to the Ca vert street depot and saw her buy her licket and speak to Green, who was on the platform. vitness called the gage-mas- ter’s attention to Green, and asked him to watch bim. As the train was about to move Green goton the train and they took seats to- gether. Witaness went as far as Union depot; oe Green between 5 aud 6 o'clock the same ay.
