There was @ large number of torches in the line and in the rear was a cal- cium light, whieh threw its rays over the Whole line. They had exerted themselves to secure the ball ($5,000) which had been fixed by the court, but had failed. They could, however, furnish bail to the amount of $2,500, and he asked that that amount be fixed. The District Attorney opposed any reduc- tion, stating that if ever a case of man- slaughter had gone to 4 jury this was one. The court said that be did not regard the case as some of the Jurors did, and thought that in redneing the bail it would have the appearance of treating the case with levity. © would therefore deny the application. Mr. McConnell said that the only course Was to ask for a speedy trial. The District Attorney said that he would give him as early a trial as he could. —_———— REAL ESTATE SALES.—Thomas E.
