The Nassaus the Victors, The race between the NassaujClub, of New York, and the Analostans, of this city, which has been anticipated with such interest for some time past, took place yesterday after- noon op the Potomac. The committee of ar- rangements deserve great credit for the promptness with which they settled all the preliminaries. His deportment has been modest and unassuming, as if conscious from the beginning that when the tests were applied he would stand acquitted of the least lingering suspicion.” JUDGE MACARTHUR said, after reviewing the proceedings in the cases of Grant against the Phoenix Insurance Company, that the principal charge sought to be made was that Wilson appeared for adverse parties. This adverse party was the reeviver appointed with the consent of the party tilixg this petition, and he could not be regarded as an adve' arty.even if the ed contract was in foree; but the pa ow that Mr. Wilson had retire! from the case at that time. JUDGE WYLIE remarked that untila rule is issued there is ho case in court. In tbis case the party had filed a paper in the clerk’s office, as though he had @ right to bring suit, and then some body bad published it in the newspapers. ‘The paper then was not npon tbe record, and until yesterday was not before the court and the counsel had waived the rale by filing an answer. In their conclusion not to issue the rule they bad not thought proper to regard the answer. The petition shows that the contract was made in May, and the re- cords do not show that Wilson & Shellabar- ger appeared in the cases after the time they state that they abandoned them in June, when the act complained of is said to have been committed in September. The contract on its face appeared to be a wild one, which no lawyer would enter into on a contingency, although it is sworn to; but we are not bound to believe everything that is sworn to. This contract purports io bind the firm to counsel, Grant. and his danghter, and the representatives of his estate. Tiere is no ground for a rule on the face of the pot and the application is denied. —_—_s—__—_ The Dental Convention. About this time a few of the large plumbers got the idea that the facture of pipe here deprived them of the ad- vantage which they had previously enjoyed over small plumbers, by enabling them to buy large stocks out of this market, which the small plumbers could not do; they thought it was not a good thing to have their neighbors enabled to buy of a manufacturer as cheaply as they could buy themselves; so the word went out ‘the Potomac Terra Cotta Company must be broken down.’ To accompi this object, an association was formed called “The Master Plumber's Association of the District of Columbia.” This association established a list of prices for terra cotta and plumbers material, which eraged one hundred cent. more than the prices which they themselves od for any such material, and they prohibi member of the association from purchasing material from apy dealer or afacturer who should sell to any. not meMbers of the association, at less than the price which they had established.
