SECOND INSTALLMENT R@™ Cirentation More than Double that of any other Daily Paper | published in Washington. | The centennial exhibition next year will afford an excellent opportunity for the | foundling of a great Lationai museum at the capital. Congress has appropriated a sum | for & representation of the operations of the | executive departments of the government and the Smithsonian Institution, and there can be no doubt, if the government fs dis- posed to be liberal, that this representation Will be one of the most attractive features of the exhibition. The War department, for instance, will exhibit the most approved ap- pliances of war, such as artillery, improved fre-arms, uniforms, ho<pita! establishments, &e.; the Patent Office wil! present the results of inventive genius in the shape of models, drawings, &c.; the Indian bureau willexhibit @ vast array of Indian curiosities; the Smithsonian Institution will contribute an invaluable representation from its famous museum; in fact, every bureau and depart- meut of the government wil! give something toenbance the interest in the great exhipi- tisn. The question wit! naturally arise after the exhibition what shal! be done with many Of the articles exhibited. The government should answer this by taking them to forma great national museum at Washington. The Indian curiosities alone, tliustrating as they would the manners and customs of @ race that 1s fast passing away, would be invalua- ble and full of interest, not to Americans only, but to the world. Altogether, we shall have after the exhibition the nacieus of a national museum which would very soon rival that of Great Britain tn point of in- terest.
