Congress has appropriated a sum for @ representation of the operations of the executive departments of the government and the Smithsonian Institution, and there can be no doubt, if the government ts dis- Posed to be liberal, that this representation Will be one of the most attractive features of the exhibition. The War department, for instance, will exhibit the most approved ap- pliances of war, such as artillery, improved Gre-arms, uniforms, hospita! establishments, &e.; the Patent Office will present the results Of inventive genius In the shape of models, drawings, &c.; the Indian bureau willexhibit @ vast array of Indian curiosities; the Smithsonian Institution will contribute an invaluable representation from its famous museum; in fact, every bureau and depart- ment of the government wil! give something toenbance the interest in the great exhipi- tisn. The question wiil naturally arise after the exhibition what shall be done with many of the articles exhibited. The government should answer this by tak them to forma great national museum at Washington. The Indian curiosities alone, illustrating as they Would the manners and customs of a race that 1s fast passing away, would be invajua- ble and full of interest, not to Americans only, but to the world. Altogether, we shal! have after the exhibiilo2 the nacleus of a national museum which would very soon rival that of Great Britain in point of in- terest. The Rev. Cyrus D.
