John Mabury, preacher in charge, preached the opening sermon on Saturday afternoon, at three o'clock, from St. John, 3d chapter, 7th verse: “You must be born again.” On Sunday there Were about 5,000 persons on the ground. Etliot, for Thomas Norfieet et al., (ofticers of the Frauklin Co-operative Building Association,) entered a suit against T. L. Cathcart et al., (officers of the ational Capital Keal Estate Association,) of somewhat novel character. The bill in this case states that defendants, a joint stock com- pany having authority, did, on the 8th ot larch, 1c71, igsue to one Phil. H. Welch certiti- cates of twenty shares of stock, each of the par value of #100, and on the 2th of October, 1572, said Welch, for valuable consideration, indorsed and transferred to C. 1s. Baily, treasurer of piatntifi’s association, said certificates, and the transfer was completed on the 20th of February, 1-74, on the books of defendant's association that at the time of the delivery of the certiti- cates there was handed to Edson, representing p'aintifis, a certificate that there had been paid #960 on the shares, and plaintiffs thereupon become entitled to the same rights and privi- leges other stockholders; that plain- tiff, on the 20th of February last, gave formal notice of their intention to sutrer ‘er said stock and demanded the redemption there- of, but defendants have wholly failed and re- fused to redeem such stock, and they still con- tinne to apply the revenues and receipts to other purposes than the redemption of atock, and are using and disbursing the same, 80 as to hinder and delay plaintiffs from receiving the amount dne them and to jeopardize the interest of plaintiffs and endanger their security. ‘The plaintiffs aver that they are entitled to up- wards of $1,200, and they ask that a decree may be passed by the court requiring the defendants to redeem said certificates and that a receiver per | be appointed to take charge of the books and papers and apply the assets te the redemp- tion of stock. ANNIVERSARY SERMON rY THE Rev. Joun ©. SmrtH.—The pastor of the ith Presbyterian Church, on 9th street, yesterday morning preached bis 35th anniversary discourse to a large congregation. He gave many interesting Statistics relative to the church. The church was organized November y 2 song, three of whom—Mr, rowley, Mrs. Catharine Wilson and Mrs. Mary Robin- son—are still alive and enjoying good health. The reverend gentleman that in the 35 years of his relations with the church, as the records would prove. there have been added to the membership 1.302 persons, while the num- ber of names onthe roll at present in active communion is 542. He baptived 785 in! and 139 adulte, making a total baptism of 922. ‘The first marriage celebrated by him was on the 5th day of May, 1°40, and since that time he has married 751 couples.’ The preabytery of the District of Columbia during these 35 years has licensed to preach the Gospel 15 young men, members of hig church, 110f whom are now alive, actively and successfully engaged in the work, those dead being Andrew G. Caruthers and Levi T. Walker.
