Cox, register. ~e—-—_ Three Divorces To-day. To-day, Judge Wylie, in the Equity Court, acted on several divorce cases. In the case of Francis Ann Mills agt. John H. Mills, an absolute decree from the bonds of matrimony was granted. The petition sets forth that on the 13th of January, 1566, she was divorced from the bed and board of defendant, Ga the ground of cruel treatment and habitual drunkenness, and the law since having been amended so'as to authorize the granting of divorces from the bonds of matrimony for the same causes she files tbis petition. Mr. I. L. dobneon appeared for the petitioner, and Mr. Jobn Cruikshank took the testimony. Also decreed an absolute divorce in the case of Virginia A. Travis against Wm. J. Leonard Huyck, charged with assault ani bat- tery on Mollie C. Chamberiain, a pretty ani sprightly young lady, who testified that Huyck went into her room on Sunday morning last and pulled her out of bed and jerked her about the room, and told her that if she ever told ang per- son again anything avout what he had done, or talkea about bim in any manner whatever, he would have her heart’s blood; that he would | like to see her tied to astake, and he woald bs the firstone to set fire to her to burn her up. She said she only wished protection of the court. Mr. Huyck stated to the court that the lady was laboring under a hallucination of mind, and had had these spells on her before; there was no truth in the statement she had made. The judge remarked that the question was not one of insanity, but of protection to the iady, and Mr. Huyck must give $300 bonds to keep the peace. AN EPISODE OF THE GRORGRTOWN BALL. John O'Connor, assault and battery on Solo- mon Livingston, who testified that last night he attended a ball in Georgetown, and about 4 o’clock this morning, on the breaking up of the ball, he conducted two ladies to the carson | Bridge street, and was followed by defendant and others,all of whom made insulting remarks. Finding the first car did not atart until abont 6 o'clock, and rain falling, he invited the ladies to take seats in his store to protect them from the rain. When the first car started he escorted the ladiee to it, and on retarning to his store he | was assnulted by the defendant, who struck him | in the head and knocked his hat into the gutter, and afterwards some kind of missiles were thrown at him. O'Connor bad no witnass, bat told the judge that the assauit was made by his companions, who made their escape. This was not credited much, and he was fined $50 and costs, Geo. Rogers, an able-bodied colored man, was charged with refusing to assist Sergeant W. W. Perry, of the 2d police precinct, when called on to aid him in making an arrest of a desperate character, who resisted him and gave hima great deal of trouble.
