AN EPISODE OF THE GEORGETOWN BALL. Jobn O'Connor, assault and battery on Solo- mn Livingston, who testified that last night he attended a ball in Georgetown, and about 4 o’clock this morning, on the breaking up of the | ball, he conducted ‘two ladies to the carson | Bridge street, and was followed by defendant | and others,ail of whom made insutting remarks. | Finding the first car did not start until about 6 | o'clock, and rain falling, he invited the ladies to take seats in his store to protect them from the rain. When the first car started he escorted the ladies to it, and on returning to his store he Was assnulted by the defendant, who struck him in the head and knocked his hat into the gutter, and afterwards some kind of missiles were thrown at him. O'Connor had no witness, bat told the judge that the assault was made by his | companions, who made their escape. This was | not credited much, and he was fined $50 and costs, Geo. Rogers, an able-bodied colored man, was charged with refusing to assist Sergeant W. W. Perry, of the 2d police precinct, when called on to aid him in making an arrest of a desperate character, who resisted him and gave hima great deal of trouble. It was testified in behalf of the defendant that he was ignorant of tha law and his duty, and, not much harm coming of it, the court imposed the nominal fine of a1. Fish Waarr.—The receipts of fish at the wharf to-day were 1,000 taylors and 500 herriag. ‘The herring were sold at $10 per thousand and the taylors at $1.10 per hundred.
