Howard, of Fairfax county, was passing along the Hunting Creek road, and about one hun- dred yards north of the bridge he saw a colored man Sitting on the side of the road behaving in a very indecent manner. Mr. Howard erdered him away, when he began to curse and abuse him in @ most shameful manner and drew a , Saying he would shoot his (Mr. H's) rains out. ‘Phe officer not being armed, went back to the toll house and procured an old mus- ket, with which he returned to the spot where the colored man was and again ordered him off. At this the man drew a pistol and pointed it at Mr. Howard, when he raised the musket and fired, the load taking effect in the man’s face. ‘The man then jumped up aud ran and before the constable could secure him he had thade hisescape. He has not yet been arrested. Tue Wrong Man Anresrep tx THE Goop- RICH Case.—Two weeks ago Lucette Meyers, accompanied by Detectives Grant and Biggett, went from Brooklyn to New York to look for Roscoe or Beach. They wandered about until Lucette said. ‘‘Arrest the man whom I pass.” Then she walked rapidly past a gentleman near Twenty-tifth street and Kighth avenue as he was gry 2 @ restaurant. The detectives rushed for him, and, as he says, with a shower of abuse and insults took him to the Brooklyn central office as Beach. The gentleman was John Ruckty, proprietor of a factory in Twenty- seventh street, and warerooms at Canal street and Broadway. Gen. Jourdan, to whom Mr. Ruehty explained, ordered the detectives. to take him to New York and learn whether his story was true. The detectives hurried him from one part of the city to another and treated him. as he says, shamefully. He was retarned to Brooklyn, and the detectives discovered their errer. Yesterday Col. Y., in the Kelsey case—one ainst Royal Sammis, the other —— his brother Kudolph. both for murder in the second degree. Kadolpt was arrested last fond evening and was in the custody of Sherift Perkins at Duryea Hote?, at Huntington, all night.
