HOPEFUL VIEWS OF THE NEW YORK HERAED In its money article of yesterday, the New York Jivrald says the panic started with the failure of one or two parties identified with incomplete railroads. “The stook market at the ime was ina feverish condition, responsive & ight causes and treamuleus in the extreme. Its strength eonsisted in two or three stecks, firmly upheld by great operators. They had come t be regarded as the key-note of the market Even these, however, could not at last resis the pressure. They “ broke,” ami in doing # naturally carried with them the entire list of speculative secunties. Thus the weakness of a few railroads has extended through the entire network of our local finance. The pulling down of one or two great houses produced distrust Money, always timid, retreated into private re cesses. Depositors commenced to run upor banks; the banks have been unable to atlor’ their usual accommodations, have refused eac) other's checks, though certified, and at last, as a conseq nence of universal doubt, have been com "ome in self defence to arrange with the clearing houre for the issue by the latter of certain lal: eerliticates based on aeceptable amets, whieh are to be reect ved im the setlement of all clear ing house differeness in the piace of legal-ten cally this aemen eyo em ecers oe wanders. it ads neon Codon! der notes. « Pi of of tt ie yee te Dams, bee woubles reselt only from Crops are good; business is first-rate; eur mar ebants bave rarely done better than they doing this season.
