Many readers of Tux Srak will doubtless remember our announcement of the escape of Mary Harris from the government insane asy- lum on the evening of the 5th of July. It was expected that he would arrive last night; but failing to make the connection in time he did uot arrive here until this morning @ little after 5 o'clock. He was met at the depot by Chiet Clarvoe, who at once sccompanied Mary Harris to the asyinm, where she wassately lodged tn her old quarters. | It willbe remembered that she was acquitted of the charge of murder for the shooting of Burroughs, in a corridor of the Treasury de- parsmet, Some years ago, on the ground of in- sanity, and that after various adventures in r and elsewhere she became dangerous again, and was sent to the insane asylum here. ‘The police officers say it has been ascertained that she was aided in ker escape by an employe Johnson conducted the grocery business’ at the corner of 7th and E streets, and in 9 few years amassed considerable pro) Subseqticntly he obtained the appointment of justice of the peace, and established an office on Louisiana avenue, near the Bank - Washington, where be did a large basiness. was also @ member Of the Washington bar; but devoted biuself mostly toofice work.
