Mohun, corner of 13th street and Ohio avenue, returned to hig room in that of- fice, from which he and his family had been temporarily absent at chureh, avd on entering encountered a white man {investigating the clothing ina closet. He immediately seized bim by the coat cellar, when the drew a revolver on him and Mangum was forced to re- linguish his bold, whereupon the fellow jumped from the window and made his escape. On ex- amining his effects Mangum found the rogue had taken $26, one gold and some silver coin and other articles his (Mangum’s) own Praper- ty which be had laid by. He raised an m ard (fficer Sutton appeared shortly after and pursued the jthief into the Smithsonizn unds, where be lost sight of him in the fiickets, The case was reported to Lieut. Skippon, at the Central guardhouse, and later im the day that officer, with Sergeant Vernon and Officer Daily went with Mangum to the place kept by Reddy Welch, where Mangum Fecoguized the man who robbed hisoffice room. He was pointed out to the officers, who “pulled” him, and on searching him in the Central guardhouse, the gold and silver evins were found in one of his beots; also, a pair of silver spectacles and a lady's scarf, all of which were recognized by Mangum as his property. The robber gave is name as W. H. Brady, and says he hails from Virginia, and that he is wanted ip Alexandria to answer for robbery. In the Police Court this morning, the accus*d gave the name of Hugh Strider, and was charged with stealing abont =26 in money, a pair of sil- ver spectacle, a Sah, aud other articles from Timothy Mangum. Mangum told his story, as mentioned above, and the judge s:n- te Strider to six monthe in jail. He was charged with assault and battery on Tim- othy Mangum, for which he was sentenced to six months in jail, making one year altogether Potomac Watrr.—Water will be turned into the new distributing reservoir of the Washing- ton aqueduct, above Georgetown, again in a short time. This reservoir covers an area of about forty-three acres, and is divided into two parts, the upper portion containing twenty-five and the lower eighteen acres. The capacity of the reservoir 1s 14,336,467 gallons to ey foot in depth, and as there will be Cs eet of water therein, it will nold 114,001 ,7, lons, or, enough water to supply the city for six days, the consumption now being about 17,000,000 gallons daily. A seven-foot conduit exterds around the northern portion, th: h which the water can be Crawn directly from the fountain- head at the Great Falls when the river is clear. ‘The intiuent gate-house is locatedon the north.
