THE fOUTHERN OLAIMS COMMISSION on Saturday heard the witnesses called in support of the claim of W. S. Jenks, of Washington, and Mrs. Bailey, his sister, for property belon, to thelr father, the late William Jenks, ‘and valued at three thousand dollars. THE MIXED CLAIMS COMMISSION, now in ses- sion here, has awarded the sum of #2,490 in gold to Francis Impey, a British subject, who claims to have suffered it losses and indignities during our late civil war. Another Englishman named James Marcher received #643 on account of the destruction of a crop of vegetables on a farm of which he was owner. James Stott, a British subject, arrested asa deserter trom the First Rhode Island cavalry, was awarded $775 on account of it. REstGNED.—Mr. P. Sherman, forseveral years chief of the stamp division of the internal reve- nue office, has resigned his position, to take effect on the Ist of January next, to accept the treasurership of the New York and Erie rail- roud company. Mr. Sherman has been in the service of the government for the past seven- teen years, first as chief clerk of the third andi- tor’s office, then chief clerk or the internal reve- nue office, and of late years chief of the stamp division. THR PRESIDENT’S ACCEPTANCE OF Mr. Buistow’s ResigNation.—The President has written the foilowing letter to Solicitor General Bristow accepting thejresignation of that officer: EXECUTIVE MANSION, Washington, D.
