Barbara Rothschild, a rich young woman, Bring oe her uncie in Bedi avenue, Wil- lias argh, has sued Frederick Lederer for breach of promise of marriage, laying the dam- ages at $15,000. Young Lederer is employed in the office of the Hamburg line of steamers, and lives at 153 west 15th eee New York. For a long time he bas been pa his attentions to Miss Rothschild, and nM last proposed mar- riage. He was accepted, ‘and the Zth of Jure fixed forthe ceremony. Ever erything went on smoothly until the day before that fixed for the wedding. Then young Lederer signified his intention of “backing down.” The young wo- man’s uncle went to the office in New York where young Lederer was employed to demand an explanation of ie conduct, but could get no satisfaction, except that he would probably sail for Europe in a few days. Atthis Barbara sought Mr. A. 8. O’Brien, a lawyer, and made an affidavit ott ng forth the above facts, Mr. © Brien immediately started for the court house to obtain an order for the arrest of the lover. ‘The application was made before Judge Neilson, of urt, who granted the order, fixing oo. ‘The order was placed ‘in the hands of Sheriff Brennan, and voung Lederer was arrested the same day im the office of the Hamburg line of steamers, 61 Broadway. When lof his arrest he sobbed like ed to be let off. He was taken fi and thence to Ladiow ‘emained until midnight riends succeeded in procuring bondse ab 1 street, becoming his sa sureties have not justified, but are to be brought up for examination this week. Lederer is of medium height, dark complex- ion, with Dundreary whiskers, and dresses in the best style. He is twenty-eight years of and a native of Germany, but speaks English and French fuentiy. He is a man of fine ap- pearance, and it does not scem strange that Miss Kothsebild should value so highly bis aifec- tions. Miss Rothschild is a beautiful blonde, 21 yearsef age, and can be seen in Prospect Park and on Bedford avenue almost every fine after- noon in her carriage, attended by liveried ser- At this season she drives in pure white. TeRxinLe TRAGEDY AMONG CaiLDREN.—On Saturday lest, while a woman residing at the Ked House, Coalport Bridge, Shropshire, was gathering wood ina neighboring coppice, one ot her children, four years of threw a knife at his litte brother, an infant about twelve months old. The we: penetrated the fore- head of the child, causing a large wound, throngh which, on removing the knife, the brain protruded. Dr. Morgan: of Madeley twas ealled'in, but the poor ebifd died the following day. The eldest child, aged seven, enraged at what had been done to the baby, threw part of & brick at the head of the offender, and inflict- ed such asevere injury that itis doubtful if this child will recover.—Manckester (Eng.)
