WHAT TWO MORE EXPERTS KNOW ABOUT TAR- TAR EMETIC. After our telegraphic report of this case closed yesterda: Dr. Peter Goodrich was briefly examined as to his experience in cases of tartar emetic poi- soning. In his cross-examination he gave his reasons for his opinion that death was the re- sult of poison by tartar emetic, which were sim- to those given by previous experts, viz: the nsence of lesions and other characteristics of that poison. He lett the stand at 2 o'clock. Dr. John R. The hypothetical case submitted to pre- vious experts covering the case of General Ketchum was then put to the witness, and his opinion asked of the cause of death, and he auswered he had no hesitation in saying that death was the result of purely natural causes; he has no hesitation, after mature detiberation, based upon all bis experience; thinks Ketehum's death was from disease, and that it was cerebro- spinal meningitis, of which witness has had fally filty cases or patients; witness then proceeded to detail the reasons that induced him to arrive at this conelusien as to cause of death, and to speak of cases of poison by tartar emetic comi under his observation, when 3 o'clock arrived, and the court adjourne 87 Some of the Arizona diamonds are quoted ath#0 cents a bushel. It soon becomes evident to the observer that some depressing inffuence is checking the de- velopment of the body. Consumption is talked of, and perhaps the youth is removed from school and sent into thecountry, This is one of the worst move- ments. Removed from ordinary diversions of the ever-changing ecenes of the city, the powers of the body, too much enfeedled to give sest to healthful and rural exercise, thoughts are turned inwardly Upon themselves, If the patient be s female the approach of the menses is looked for with anxiety as the first symp- tom in which nature is to show her saving power in diffusing the circulation and visiting the check with the bloom of health. Alas! increase of appetite has grown by what it fed on. The energies of the system are prostrated, and the whole economy is deranged The beautifal and wonderful period in which body and mind undergo #0 fascinating a change from child to woman, is looked for in vain. The parent’s heart bleeds im anxiety, and fancies the grave but waiting for its victim. HELMBOLD'S EXTRACT BUCHU FOR WEAKNESS ARISING FROM EXCESSES OB EARLY INDISCRETION, attended with the following symptoms: Indisposi. tion to Exertion, Loss of Power, Loss Memory Difficulty of Breathing, General Weakness, Horror of Disease, Weak Nerves, Trembling, Dreadful Horror of Death, Night Sweats, Cold Feet, Wake fulness, Dimness of Vision, Languor, Universal Las situde of the Muscular System, Often Enormous Ap petite with Dyspeptic Symptoms, Hot Hands, Flash ing of the Body, Dryness of the Skin, Pallid Counte- nance and Eruptions on the Face, Pain inthe Back, Heaviness of the Eyelids, Frequently Black Spote Flying before the Eyes, with Temporary Suffusion and Loss of Sight, Want of Attention, Great Mobili. ty, Restlesness, with Hoiror of Society. Nothing is more desirable to such patients than Solitude, and nothing they more dread, for fear ef themselves; no ‘no repose of manner, no earnestness, no speculation, but # burried transition from one question to another. THESE SYMPTOMS, IF ALLOWED TO Go ON-—WHICH THIS MEDICINE INVARIABLY REMOVES—800N FOLLOW LOSS OF POWER, FATUITY AND EPILEPTIC FITS, IN ONE OF WHICH THE PATIENT MAY EXPIRE. During the superintendence of Dr. Wilson at the Bloomingdale Asylum, this sed result occurred to two patients. Beason had for a time left them, and both died of epilepsy. They were of both sexes, and ubont twenty years of age, ‘Who can ssy that these excessos are not frequently foliowed by those direful diseases, Insanity ang Consumption? The records of the Insane Asylums, andthe melancholy deaths by Consumption, bear ample witness to the truth of these assertions. In Lunatic Asylums the most melancholy exhibition appears. The countenance is actually sodden and quite destitute; neither mirth nor grief ever visite it, Should «sound of the voice occur itis rarely ar- ticulate. “With wofal measures wan despair Low sullen sounds their grief beguiled.” While wo regret the existence of the above is- eases and symptoms, we are prepared to offer an valuable gift of chemistry for the removal of the con- sequences.
