Two other cxecu- tions took place in the State yesterday. : At Camberiand, Jolin Howard, alias John Lewis, lias Shorty Evans, was executed for the murder of Heury Miuer, near Oldtown, Maryland, on the 18th of August last. Biller wes e: tn boating on the Chesapeake and Obio canal, and Howard ‘Was employed on the boat. The murder occurred about 4 o'clock in the morning. Howard caught up a “‘spreader-stick” and struck Miller some three or four violent blows over the head, trom the efects of which hedied in a few hou: Howard was arrested, tried, convicted and sen- tenced to death. He committed the heinous offence g] the person of garet Butcher, a white woman, years of age, and for many years quite infirm, on the 6th day of Apri, 1570, between daylight and suprise, about six miles from Frederick, near the village of Mount Pleasant.
