Yesterday, five States of the Ur‘on—Pennsyl- varia, Ohio, Indiana, lowa, and Nebraska— held electiors and chose sixty-one Representa- tives to the Forty-second Congress, which as- sembles in this city in December of next year. Pennsylvania elected congressmen, members 0 the legislature, and local officers; Whio chose congresemen and & secretory of state, supreme judge, comptroller and member of the board of public works; Indiana, congressmen and a sec- Tetary of state, auditor, treasurer, attorney general, superintendent of public instruction, and judges of the superior court for four dis. trict-; Iowa, congressmen and a secretary of stat auditor, treasurer, attorney general, registrar, and Judges of the supreme court; and Nebre:ka a full State ticket and congressmen. The following is a summary of the returns re- ceived hore last night: PENN VANIA. The republicans claim that they have lost no members of Congress a8 far as can be ascer- tained, so that the delegation will probably stand at at present—is republicans and 6 demo- crats. Seventeen of the republican candidates for State Senators are positively elected. The next Senate will stand 20 republicans and 13 democrats; the House of a 60 republican and 40 democrats. The republicans have elected the entire city ticket, with perhaps ene excepticn, in Philadelphia, Lynd, for dis- trict judge, who runs far below his ticket, and William 8. Pryo, the democratic candidate, is probably elected. The result of the contest as to the location of the public buildings is decid- edly in favor of Penn square by a majority reaching 10.000. The following is the result in the several con- gressional district of the State so far as heard irom up to this morning. The Alleghany districts we have carried by a sweeping major over the copperheads and bolters combined. Luzerne defeats Woodward (McCollam *), and gives us a republican Congressman. Killinger, republican, succeeds Cake, aud we hold our own everywhere else. Neill is said to be beaten, but ithe is he is supplanted by a goo! republican and a soldier. The Legislature ix decidedly republican.” S. Negley telegraphs to the Presi dent that Alleghany county has gone republican by 5,000 majority, and that he (General N. re-elected by 3,000 majority. THE OHIO ELECTION. 1s Gen. Boynton has received the following dis- patches to-day from Ohuo: CINcINNATI, ONTO, Oct. 12,3.15 a. m.—Hamil- ton county republicans elect both Congressmen. Scattering returns from the third district are tavorable to Schenck, and trom the State gene- ‘ally favorable to the republicans. The vote i= light, and returns come in slowly. The few returns trom Indiana indicate nothing un- favorable to the republican: CINCINNATI, OHIO, Oct. 1 2 decidedly republican, majority over thousand. The third district is close with chances against Schenck. The first and second districts go republican. The election of Smith in the sixth district, and Foster in the ninth, is claimed by the republicans. Shellabarger’ is elected, not counting the third district. The republicans gain one, and probably two con- gressmen. PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 12.—Forney’s Press claims the election of Oliver to Congress in the Gth district, and of Shoemaker in the 12th, which, however, are still in doubt. Inthe 5th district, Reading, democrat, is elected, his ma- jority in Bucks county being 59. In the 19th district, Erie gives a republican majority ot 000; Clearfield gives a democratic majority ot 200, and Cameron45. There are large repub: lican majorities in Forest, Jefferson, McKean and Warren counties. Scofield is undoubtedly elected. Cessna’s election in the 15th district i- still in doubt, and so is Stewart’s in the 21st. PHILADELTArIA, Oct. 12.—Mayor Fox yester day protested both to United States Marsha! Gregory and Governor Geary against the em- ployment of marines to keep the peace at the a asa violation of the Constitution of the United States.
