THE War ix EvRrore.— What Should be Done to Increase the Efficiency of Our Navy *—Vice Ad- miral:Porter expresses the opinion that in view of the situation between France and Prussia fourteen thousand seamen should be enlisted immediately, and all of our sea-going vessels, eighty-two in number, fitted out for sea. Be also thinks that sixty fifteen-inch guns should be placed upon these vessels, It is stated that the President agrees with Admiral Porter in these ‘views. ‘TRE DULL sEason has already commenced here, and throughout the Executive Depart- ments great inactivity prevails, nothing what- ever transpiring to relieve the dull monotony of routine business. A number of clerks in the various offices are enjoying their annual leave of absence for thirty days. His journey was a com- plete ovation from the start. Pausing at Cob- Jentz he was surrounded by an immense throng of his countrymen, who greeted him with cheers. At length the King came forward and said: “I am pleased with this surprise. See to it that you behave as bravely elsewhere.” On arriving at this city the King found fully 100,000 people at the station waiting to escort him to the palace.
