The concurrent resolution to provide for a Joint Committe on Indian Affairs was taken up. Mr. Morrill, ot Vermont, said there would be just as much propriety in creating a Joint Com- mittee on Foreign Affairs or on Finance, as a Joint Committee on Indian Affaire. Mr. Sumuer said the course which this reso- lution had run in this Chamber reminded him ot the porpoises in the ocean, who reappeared trom time to time to blow; or of the dogs gn the Nile, who, when they were thirsty, took a lap of water, then run on and took another lap ot water, and then run on a little and took another Jap, and this was for fear of the crocodiles, He did not know that there were any crocodiles in this chamber, but certain it was that every day when this was taken up inthe moruing hour, one o'clock came like a crocodile, and it onge more had to retreat. He hoped that this morm- ing there would be time enough to vote. He understood that this resolution received full sanction of the House, and its origin in that body placed it above any suspicion. Mr. Tharman understood that this subject was not discussed at all in the House, and that when it was to there were searcely thirty members that knew what it was about. ‘The question was then taken on the motion to indehnitely postpone the resolution; which was lost-—ayes 28, nay of constructing a TELEGRAMS TO THE STAR.
