Nearly the whole amount of bouds to which the Company will be entitled have already been delivered. FIRST MORTGAGE BONDS AT PAR. By its charter, the Company fs permitted to is- sue ts own FIRST MORTGAGE BONDS to the same amount as the Government bonds,and no ‘more. These Bonds are a First Mortgage upon the whole road and all its equipments. THEY HAVE THIRTY YEARS TO RUN, AT SIX PER CENT., and both PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST ABE PAYABLE IN GOLD. Such securities are generally valuable in propor- tion to the length ef time they have to rum. T longest «ix per cent. gold interest bonds of the United States (the '31’s) will be i 12 years, and they are worth 112. If they had 30 years to rum, they would stand at not less than 125. A perfectly safe First Mortgage Bond like the Union Pacific should spproach this rate. The demand for Buropean investment is already considera and the completion of the work will doubtless carry the price to a large premium. SECURITY OF THE BONBS. It needs no argument to show that a First Mort. gage of $26,000 per mile upon what for a long time yust be the enly railroad connecting the Atlantic and Pacific States is PERFECTLY SECURE. The entire amount of the mortgage will be about $30,000,000, aud the interest $1,800,000 per annum in gold. The present currency cost of this interest is less than $2,500,000 per annum, while the gross earnings for the year 138, FRUM WAY BUT.
