A Ten- nessee Democratie Convention welcomes the treedmen to the Democratic ranks, per official resolution. Thus it reads: “Hesoivedt, That if the freeamen of this State Unite with the Democracy, and by their votes the enfranchisement of the waite men who ore now distranchised, common justice and common gratitude demand that we shouid not distur them in any rights they may now F brothers.” ts In Charleston, S. ©., the Democracy bave succeeded in organizing several colored Demo- cratic clubs, with a membership of at least a | thousand: and they prepose to raise a colored Democratic club in every County in the State. | But at the Democratic meeting at Yazoo, Mis- | | { aissippi, last week the Democracy completely | took the wind out of the sails of their Repub- hesn rivais for the colered vote. Since the day that “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity” were | first invented, we suppose the colored people tye never been addressed so cordially as men | and brothers as by these wide-awake Demo- eats of Yazoo. They deciare (per resolutions adopted unanimously) that “xs citizens of Mis- | sissippi it is our purpose to confer impartial suffrage on all men, irrespective of color. and to place all men on terms of equality before the Iaw, so that life, liberty and property may | be equally assured to ally’ that “our thanks | are due to our colored friends, who, actuated by a sen ustice and patriotic duty, co-op- erted with us in the Iate election in defeating the oppressive and iniquitous Constitution framed by strangers and common enemies to them and ourselves:” that “as an evidence and testimonial of our esteem and good will for them and the value of their noble aid in a just cause and patriotic principles, and as a farther token of friendship and union in support of democratic principles, we render to them a public barbecue at this place on the fourth Sat- urday im August, 1855;" that other colored people who wisn to renounce the Radical party “are respectfully invited to meet aad participate with us in said barbecue:” that “it is our duty and should be the duty and pleasure of all persons, in the bestowal of emp!oyment, places and patronage to the col- ored people, frankly to prefer and give the same to those who are our personal and politi~ cal friends, and to cheer and animate them to lives of usefulness, respectability and prospe- rity, and in no wise to give sid and comfort to our radical enemies, who seek t> prostrate us and liberty, and give dominion to our politica! adversaries: and that “we invite all good- Meaning and well-disp csed colored people to join the Conservative and Democrane party, and assure them, as well as all who have joined, that all their legal rights shall, to the extent of our ability, eVer be respected, sus- tained and protected, and that they can safely trust us todo them every justice and right in every emergency.” Mississippi Democratic journals state that the colored Mississippians, since tbe late elec. tions, are going oves én masse to the Democry< In & single county one thousand of them have produced certificates of membership in Demo- cratic clubs, and feel tar freer and prowder than they ever did as the slaves of scalawag “poor white trash.” As one of these papers eloquently states it, “A millenium of good fee!- ing between the races in Mississippi is dawn- ing as the result of this state of things.” Again atthe Mobile Democratic ratification meeting, Mr. C. C. Langdon, addressing colored people, sald. “We recornize the fact that you are en- titled to vote in elections. and we are not going to depriv: u of this right.” In Texas, a number of Democratic negro clubs have been formed in Eastern Texas, and colored orators, it is stated, are doing efficient work among the treedmen. Ata barbecue a: Independence, Washington county, the Bren- Aam Bamne~ says there were at least3x) negroes Present, who listened with great interest to the speeches, and many of them, before leaving the ground, “declared the determimation io ad- Bere to their white Sonthern frientsand vot the democraue ticket.” The Bonner is cone vanced that with very little effort nine-tenths Of all the negroes in the State can be converted | to the Democfatic faith. A colored Democratic club has been formed at Houston, which holds | regular weekly meetings. A Monston Demo- ES } ' | | cratic paper notes the formation of this club with much satisfaction, and says:—“The speakers are unanimously im favor o: mour and Bisir, aud state generally th are proud of the epportunity to unite wi only party that had any claims upon the blacks, aud could and would benefit their race.” All this denotes 2 very remarirable siate of Affairs im the South, and we do mot wonder that the New York Po f advises tre Republican leaders to “pay aitention to the Southern States." In looking over our Southern Demos eratic exchanges we notice that th mvective Scain-t negro a ffraze appeared from their colamus . as mlent a= mice om that topic: though banging away af the carpet-baggers as vige orously as eve Sbevld the Democrats stcceed im controling the colored vote in the coming Presidential election, it will not be strange if the Southern Domveriey of 1s should take a stand as the special champion af pegro suffrage. This would certainly be 3 very Femarkable change of front, bat nalikelier tmngs have happened: and certainly no one would have guessed one vearago that the Dem. | Ocrats of the South would at this time be can. vassing successfully for the colored vote of tha section The Dontgomery ® De, tie paper, gives a report that Governor Smith, of Ala. bams; will soon isstehis proclamation for an election of Presidential electors and Cougres men, at the regular time fprelection in Novern. ber.
