After the admission of a number of new members, and the transaction of some Private business, a motion was made andadopt- ed that Sergeant Bates be granted the free use of the hall during his sojourn in Washington. Subsequently the Sergeant was called om and gavea few incidents of his travel through the South, in which he assured his hearers that the people were actuated by the most honora- ble impulses, and as loyal to the Federal Gov- €rnment as at any portion of the North. Resolutions endorsing the nominauon by the National Democratic Convention of Seymour and Blair for President and Vice President of the United States; condemnatory of the action of the War Department in the recent discharge ot a number of maimed and crippled soldiers trcm the positionsof cle:kships, and appealing to Gen. Scofield for the redress of the wrong inflicted, were adopted.
