THE EVENING STAR. FROM EUROPE, Panis, June 6—Evening.—Another attempt ppon the life of the Emperor Louis Napoleon Was made to-day, while returning from a& grand review in the Camp de Mars, which took place this afternoon in honor of his Im- perial visitor, the Czar et Rassia, who acco: panied him. A shet was tired at the carriage by some person in the crowd. Fortunavely neitber of the illustrious Emperors were in- jured. The incident created great excitement and contusion for a time, which was soon quieted wheu it wis found that the intended assascin had tailed. Up tothts time the assas- sin has not been arrested, but he cannot long escape ATuENs, June 6—Evening. — Information Teceived from the scene of the recent military operations in the Island of Crete confirm the Teports that the Turks have been everywhere badly defeated, and that the Cretan insargents | bave been uniformly successful in their en- counter with tbe forces which, under the com- mand of Omer Pasba, were intended and ex- pected to speedily crash out and destroy the revolutionists, Dus, June 6—Evening —The party ot Fenians who were arrested a few days ago while attempting toland in Dungannon, coun- ty Waterford, say that they were from Boston, Massachusetts Lonpon, June 6 —Evening.—Lord Nass, Chiet Secre'ary of lreland, announced in the House of Commons to-night that the sentences of all conviered Fenians have been commuted. Lonpon, June 6—Evening.—Advives from the Continent report a rising against the au- thority of the Porte in Bulgaria and Servia. THE GREAT CRoPS—THE UomING HARVEAT, The New York Journal of Commerce, in re- viewing the crop prospects, is certain that never before in the bistory of this country bave the crops given such promise ot plenty. We quote: “Tbe bay crop, one of the most valuable, is now beyond the reach of any ordinary ca- lamity, and the yield will be unprecedented. Our city readers can hardly understand what an immenee ga‘n thisis tothe country. During the last season the farmersin many rural dis- tricts saw the bottom of their hay-mows for the first t'me in a score of years, and forty to fiity do! per ton were often paid in the very beart of agricul:aral districts largely devoted to grass cultvre. ‘he crop of 1860 was put down in the census at a little over nineteea million tens; that of 1966, by the Agricultural Bureau, at 21,778,627 tone, valned at $317,561,- 837; but the yield of 1867 is likely to be over thirty million tons, a gain whose importance can hardly be overestimated. The wheat crop of the United States for 1866 is given by the Bureau at 151,998,906 bushels, valued at $833.773,646. The yiela this season is still aub- ct to more contingencies than the bay crop— ti the testimony from all sections is more universally cheering and favorable to the largest estimates than ever before in our expe- rience. The same is true of the corn crop. The yield of Indian corn for the last year was given at £67,946,295 bushels, vained at $591,- 666,295. For this year the promise now exceeds twelve hundred million bushels. Other grains, and mest of the fruits, are equally promising. The effect of such a supply upon the finances of the country will be almost magical, unless counterbalanced by the grossest mismanag. ment of national affairs. We have seen a state- ment in print, intended to show that it made little difference to the country Whether the yield of any specified crop was large or small, since the price was enhanced by scarcity, and as much was obtained for a small return as a large one. This sophistry is too apparent to meed refutation. The relief to all ciasses of laborers and producers to be found in the over- fNowing abundance now promised never came ata time when it was more sorely needed.” @7 There are now in the warehouses ai Co- Jumbia, S. C., over 6,000 bales of cotton, more than balt of which belongs to planters. Atap average of 20 cents per pound, this cotton is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $309,000. &7 The Governor of San Luis, Mexico, has ordered that a fine be imposed upon all tathers ofa family who do not send their children to school. @ The recent cable announcement that Spain is seriously considering the policy of abolishing slavery in her colonies, is of :m- portance, for incase the Spanish government decides upon abolition, over 400,000 Caban slaves willbecome freemen. @7 Capt. Samuel M. Carr, the New London, cu, rueelps taba ee bas turned up in Cali- fornia, and Mrs Carrand a police detective Are now on their way to that State. The citi- zens of New London contributed the sum of M) to aidin bringing the guilty husband to ce. m7 Fitzgerald, the murderer of Ellen Hicks, @ girl eightcen years old, at Westchester, N. Y., Ras been sentenced to be hung on the 1%th of July. 7 The Mode! Lodging-House Association ef Boston has made a semi-annual dividend of three per cent.
