PRaRvUL ExrLosien OF GAS AT THE Post Orv Three Persons Injured.—The light for the ral Pest Office building ts made by several machines in the basement of that build- ing. About 5 ociock this morning an explo- stom took piace in tha: portion of the basement which t* uncer the City Post Office in tne room im the north west corner, occupied by one of tae machines. Mr. James A. Kennedy, Superin- tendent of the City Post Office, ‘Mr. i. H. Dou- bieday and Bir. 1. B. Moses, clerks in the City st Office. were badly injured by the explo- sion. It appears that Mr. Doubleday, who is & machinist, with Mr. Moses, went Gowa into the vanit tor the purpos- of ad- usting the machines in order to brighten up the light to assort the morning mail, the light having grown dim towards morning. Mr. Kennedy, the superintendent, accompanied the above-named gentlemen to the rooms oc- cupied by the machines. They first went to the room in the northeast corner of the build- ing, were there is a machine, and after wind- ing it up returned to the office, and found the light had improved but little. Mr. Moses fell, but was dragged out by Messrs. Kennedy and Doubleday, to the passage.
