Green, of Philadelphia, the meeticg adjourned. ——_ THz Groves SHeoTING Case DIsMissep.— Last night, a large company of young men, Trien. { the parties, assembled at the Fourth Ward station-bouse to hear the evidencein the case of Joseph Patch, charged with assault and battery with intent to kill David Groves, the “~ previous. r. Phiilips, conneel for the detence, moved for the cismiseal ef the case againet his client. Upon the ground that the prosecution had no Otber evidence than that offered at the bearing at 9 o'clock a. m. Justice Tucker remarked that betore he Would consider the motion for dismissal, he would like the counsel to read the affidavit of the wounded man, taken at his residence yes- terday afternoon, and which was all ths evi- dence which had been as yet offered in the case Mr ry: then read aloud the following Statement of Groves :—l was at the house of Mrs. Patch, on G street porta, between North Capitol and ist streets, yesterday, the iith instant, about [2 o’clock m. Two or three men entered the room. I don’t know who they were. They came in suddenly, and withoat Saying & word shotme. I thought it was her (Mrs. Pateh’s) brother, Orider, who fired, until I was told otherwise, 1 was situag down by the stove. Mrs. Patch was sitting on the opposite side of the room. There bad been no 4emrel. No words at any us time. I had been raised with Mrs Patch from child- hood, 4s brother and sister, and there was no cause for jealousy.
