At first she declined to give her name or to show any colors or papers. and shortly after her arrival she commenced the shipment of large quantities of powder from @ barge sent out to her. Ou the Govern- ment being communicated witb, they directed that she should be seized, and on the arrival of instructions fo that effect, her capture was effected by a party of the ovticials from the ships in port. On the ship being boarded, ail doubt as to her character was set at rest, as she was found to be laden with stores and munitions of war, consisting of gunpowder, Blakely guns, re- volvers, swords, and arms of various descrip- tions, together with a large quantity of coals, concesied, among which are stated to be a quaatity of sbot and shell. On the officials taking possession of the vessel, the captain was not to be found on board.and it was statedthat he had not joined. The second officer, who Was ostensibly in charge of the vessel, made his escape soon after she was in Possession of the Officials, and he has not since been seen. The crew was found to consist of only twenty hands—or rather, that was the number found on board. The explanation they give is that the vessel was intended for the navy of the Government of the Republic of Colambia and that the Bolivar was on her way to South America when she was detained. answering Bayard is em Visited their offices a ring Alt Sweetrg, CO.
