The nope of this class, as of all other classes of the people of the South, rests wholly upon the speedy settlement of all the questions at issue between herself gnd Congress- With these questions settled, they will have equalchances in the race of life with all the South's other citizens, except, for the time be- ing, in (he matter of the rmght to emter the ser- vice of the General Government, and to parti- cipate in its administration. Then, if man. festing im business anything like the force, acumen and capability they manifested in poli- ties before the war, their Chance of retaining the leadership of Southern affairs will be all chat their dependent press can desire. Revolu- ons have never yet gone backward. All must now realize that the abortive Southern rebel- hon bas resulted in 8 sweeping revolution in the ideas prevailing im the North, as well as im the material affairsof the South. This must speedily change the prevailing and past ideasot the latter. We strive but to save all classes at he South from being virtually overwhelmed y the progress of this inevitable revolution of ideas, and to secure for them. all the substan. tial advantages within their power to work out of their lessons and sacrifices of the war.
