Tbe counterfeits of the last named notes are pronounced excellent, the engraving being very good. In the word “maintain,” however, near the fe.oale figure, on the right band side of tne face of the note, the letter “T”’ is imperfect in the counterfeit issue. Anew and counterfeitof United States legal tender notes of the denomination of $50, made its appearance at the Treasury De- rtment yesterday, and was pronounced by eneral Spinner, United States Treasurer, to be one of the most skillfully executed ever brought to his notice. The vignette of General Alexander Hamilton, first Secretary of the U S. Treasury, Dad heen “split” from a $2 treas- ury note, and neatly pasted on the c: terfeit 2. Theengraving of the other portions of the note is well done, and can with difficulty be distinguished from the genuine.
