A DIPrricULTY OVERCOME AND A MARRIAGE A: CoMPLISHED.—A somewhat curious case of | elopement and youthful marriage was reported abuut town yesterday, the factsof which are said to be as follows: On Wednesday lasta young girl named Mary, fourteen years of age, of re-pectable parents in the city, went to Con- cordia Park with her brother. When wander- ing about the park they met, perhaps accident- ally, a young lover of “Mary’s who is said, not- ‘witbstanding a common-sounding name, to be + and to be gifted with those soft nes and passionate glances peculiar to itahan’s sons. Between Mary and this young man, itis said, adeep and psssionate Affection has existed for some time past, and they bad determined to unite their lots in spite of the exceedingly unfavorable reception of Mary’s friends and parents. Their meeting at the park was doubtless pre-arranged. Waiting for an opportunity when her brother was en- gaged some distance from them, Mary and her lover slipped away unobserved, and so made their escape. Their first step was to arrange about immediate marriage. To this end they catiled on certain legal gentlemen to obtain advice as to surmounting the serious obstacle of Miss Mary's age. ‘Was out of the question: so the difficulty was to be able to answer the Justice when the question was asked the youthful bride, «What is your age!” In this dilemma the ingenuity and aetnteness of law came to the assistance of tbe contused intellects of the loving couple. ‘Taking & small piece Of paper, the lawyer wrote thereon mumber eighteen, and Danded it to the observant girl, saying, «Put this in your shoe under the sole of your foot, and when the question is asked -how old are you!” reply, ‘I amstanding on eighteen.” A dawning light broke over the joyons maiden as she per- ceived the —< expedient, and how, if necessary. she might swear upon her soul she ‘was over eighteen. Armed with this im- vention, ‘ey Visited the Squire's office, ana were without difficulty nnited in the boncs et holy wedlock and Wenton their way re- ocipe| 5 The ne s friends are said to be highly dis- gusied with the marriage, as they have a very Jow estimate of her husband, and are seeking to annul the pseudo marriage As soon as possible.
