Jackson, entered the President street depot building of the Philade| hia, Wil- mington and Baltimore Railroad pany, and proceeded to the room set apart for the use of ladies While waiting for the starting of trains. They made inquiry of the janitress of the building if it was not the room for ladies, and received an affirmative reply, accom- panied by an intimation, as they were about | to make themselves at home, that it was | mot the room fer them. They refused to leave, but were compeiled to go out. The ‘State’ Attorney was informed of the par- tculars of the transaction, and by his advice oF instruction Justice Speir i the warrant for the arrest of Mr. Smyzer. the charge of forcibly ejecting the complain- anttrom the room. The writ was served by Policeman Calloway on Monday, and the ac- cused party appeared at the office of the Jus- lice, whoreleased him on security for his ~ 2 pearance for trial at the Criminal Court. The Railroad Company, it is stated, have a sepa- rate room, as also a special car on each or cer- tain trains, for the use of colored persons. This case is instituted with the view of testing, un- der th vil Rights bill, whether any distine- tion @@ account pf color can be made in public places. The “serpents” emit 2 poisonous fume while burning, and the dan- ger attending their use has driven them ont of the market; but the “magic photograph” is cafe as well as pleasant.
