Drceassp.—Dr. Richard Gudgin, the well known Veterinary Surgeon, died yesterday at bis residence, on 10th, near O street, after an ilness of several months. Dr. Gudgin was an Englishman by birth and came to this city about twenty years since where he has since practiced his business, and was well and fa- vorably known throughout the District as a very successful Surgeon. He was a remarka- diy large sized min weighing nearly 500 pounds, and up toa very recent date enjoyed excellent health. The disease of which he died was a dropsical affection of the heart. He leaves s widow and several children. Stoten Cows. erday, officer Sprague executed a search warrant for three cows, be- longing to Mr. C. F. Coltman, (which had been missed for about two weeks,) on the premises of Mr. Benzinger, where he found them, in the possession of Fred. Shader, an employee of Mr. B.. who stated he found them on the commons and drove them in, expecting to see a reward offered. Shader was arrested and taken before Justice Cull, who held him to bail for court. —— 6s For Cover.—Last night, Sergeant Tait, ef the Second Ward, with roundsmen Franklin, Walker, Howes, Roth, Barkley and Howard, arrested Lizzie Smith and Amanda Kelley for keeping bawdy-houses, on D street, between 12th and i3th. They were taken before Jus- tice Morsell, and Lizzie Smith was held to beil for court, and Amanda Kelley was held for further hearing. Three girls were found in the houses, two of whom gaye security for good behavior, and one was dismissed. o—__— THE ANNIVERSARY MEETING of the Bible Society takes place at the 13th-street Baptist Church to-night, at quarter te eight o'clock. Boarp oF ALDERMEN.—Present, all the members, the Recorder presiding. The Com- mon Council referred to this Board a commu- nication from Mayor Addison, in which he stated that the object of the meeting had been briefly indicated in the note addressed to each member on that day.
