In the absence of the Chair- mas, Mr. W. E Brown was called to the Chair. A communication was received from Mr. F. Koones, coal dealer, explanatory of his mode of business, which had been complained of by the dealers. The explanation was received as entirely satisfactory. Mr. Burker presented a preamble setting forth that united action will best protect the interests of the trade, not only at home, but from impo- sition from abroad, and twe resolutions to or- ganize under the title of the “Coal Dealers As- sociation,” and be governed by what a majori- ty of the Association may deem best for the in- terest of themselves and the community. The resolutions were slightly amended, making the title to be the “Coal Exchaage of the District of Columbia,” and were unani- mously adopted. The resolutions were freely discussed before acoption, no one seriously objecting, but all anxious to avoid the appearance of a combina- tion against consumers or the public interest, And it was stated that while they are protect- ing themeelves against imposition from abroad, protection will haye a tendency to insure the reduction of the prices of coal here. a motion of Mr. Brintnal, s committee of five, consisting of Messrs. J. T. Given, @. L. Sheriff, Gainand, Magruder, and Barker. and the meeting directed the addition of Mr. Brown, the chairman, to draft a constitution and by-laws for the government of the Ex- chaner, to reportat the next meeting. Hone: per Ib., 508600, _—s se Horse SToten._Mr. Hunt’s stable, at Cameron Mills, was broken open last night and one of his horses stolen therefrom. This morning the thief was overtaken near Dr. Mason’s, on the Telegraph road. He wis Gtiving a two horse wagon, one of the hors»s being the one stolen from Mr. Hunt. He was zeade to “face about” with his team, but on coming toathicket he jumped out and made bis escape. The wagon contained a number ©f tools, monkey wrench, brace and bit, a pair of gauntlets, a fine overcoat, and other articles, all supposed to haye been stolen. The wagon was taken to Cameron Mills by Alfred Rob- erts, the gentleman who overhauled the thief — Alezandrnia Journal. —— ImPROVEMENT OF PireTows.—Recently, the site of the Engineer Camp, above the Navy Yard Bridge, has grown up into a considera- bie place, known as Pipetown, and at present there are completed or in course of erection about thirty houses there. Fourteen of these are on i4th street east, nine on L street south, and the others on K street south. All of these buildings are two storied frames, of Nve rooms each, and doubtless as the commencement has been made we may soon hear of other im- provements going upin thissection. Most of these houses were erected by Mr. Thomas E. Ciarke, of the Sixth Ward. eae Svspricton oy LARCENY.—Yesteriay, Robert ‘Tasco, negro, was offering a pair of shoes for sale on Pennsylvania avenue. The officer captured him after a long chase, and took him to the station- house, where he bad a hearing before Justice Morsell, who semt the prisoner to jail for a further hearing.
