Colonel W. A. Browning, late Private Secre- tary to President Johnson, died last night at his father’s residemce, on Missouri avenue, in this city, of inflamation of the bowels. Colonel Browning was a native of this city, but spent some years of bis life in the West. He returned to Washington as Secretary to Andrew John- son when Senator from Tennessee, and after- wards was upon the staffof the latter when Military Governor of Tennessee. He accom- panied Mr. Johnson to Washington on his re- turn here as Vice President, and received the appointment of Private Secretary to the Presi- dent on his accession to the Executive Chair.
