Scere Tue Stassrye Case.—Saturday afternoon, Justice Thompson called up the case of Mil- bdourn Hunter, charged with stabbing Bernard Luckett the night previous at Ardeeser’s res. taurant, on 7th, near L street. Mr. J. H. Brad- ley, appeared as counsel for the defense. ‘The evidence was to the effect that some time before the affray young Hunter was sitting in Mr. Owen E. Duffy's store, near Ardeeser's restaurant. Mr. Jos. Heffiey, a tinner, came in and entered into conversation with some per- son= about a patent coffee boiler, and presented one to a trend. It was ——— to have a “treat” upon that, and ¢ company agreed, and they drank twice. Previous to this some man came into the store, bringing a dog, which be left there. Hunter noticed the dog, and asked whose it was. No one knew, and Hunter remarked that it looked like a valuable dog, and if no one claimed it he would take care of i. But some one opened the door and the dog got out. Hunter drank pretty freely, more than usual when ‘asked, to drink, and was intoxicated. A gentleman came into the store and asked for hisdog. Hunter said he had the dog, put he had got away. The Dutchman made some remarks that irritated Hunter, and went out. Hunter followed after, and Luckett and Hunter ran against each other on the pavement, and Hunter struck Luckett. ‘They were parted by a young man named Greer and Mr. Duffy. Greer asked Hunter if he knew who he struck. Hunter said he did not, and Greer told him it was Ber Luckett. Hunter said, “Then I'll make it up with him.” He went to Luckett and said, + Ben, I didn’t know it was you,” and shook bands with him, and they parted. Greer told Luckett te go down the street, as the police might come along. Luckett went down the street, leaving Greer, Heffley, Duffy and others talking en the corner. Luckett soon returmed, and re- marked that Hunter bad struck him on the nose for nothing, and showed his bleedy hand- kerehief as proof.
