The prisoner went to Carter's house to bargain for @ watch. Carter was not at home, but his wife eaid sbe bad a gold watch which she would sell if her husband consented. She put her ‘watch in the pocket of a little boy and teld him to go with White to her husband, and ask him it tight sell it. On the way White per- suaded the boy to let him have the watch, as be (the boy) might lose it. White went te Car- ter and offered to bargain for a silver watch which Carter bad.
