: H ; % ; EVENING STAR. Financial and Commercial. The New York stock market continues dall. There is no present inclination to enter upon speculative ventures, and some of the bulls ps & disposition to gradually unload At the morning board, however, the tone of busi- ness appeared rather to favor their side, and a moderate line of buyers’ options was put out. Judying from the present feeling of the market, | neither the ease in money nor the steady in- crease of bank currency, will tempt operators into any extensive movement for a rise in prices. At the board, Government bonds were Moderately active and firmer. Sixes of 1681 Tose \: five-twenties of "65 were also \ better. Seven-thirties were dull, and show less firm- ness; the second series fetl ¥, closing at ©. Certificates of indebtedness closed at 98X, an advance of \. The Erenng Commercial says :—“There ap- pears to be bo foundation for the statement | made yesterday by an usually trast-worthy Philadelphia journal that Mr. McCalloch in- tends iesuing proposals early for a large fund- ing loan. Those who familiarized themselves ‘with the Secretary’s views during his late visit, are decided im their opinion that no early at- tempt at funding operations will be made. They think the Secretary's talk of contraction should be rather viewed as a sort of moral check upon specultive tendencies, than as representing Measures to beat once put in operation. At the fame time, the apprehension thai a loan may be proposed at any moment has undoubtedly much to do with the prevailing dullness of business. This expectation, unfortunately, notonly checks speculation, but also regular busines= operations.” Gold shows a tendency to re-act from the de- cline of Thursday.
