John S. Williams, Maj. Thos. Donoho, John Waters, Wm. Cooper, Jas. Clephane, John F. Callan, F. R. Dorsett, Simeon Matlock, C. Cammack, Sr., Dr. A. McD. Davis, Edmund F. Brown, John Tretler, Geo. Savage, B. O. Sheckell, E. M. Drew. Col. John S. Williams was called to the chair and Mr. Jobn F. Callan appointed secretary. The Secretary explained that one of the ob- jects of the meeting was to form an association. Several prominent citizens were heart and soul in the movement, but they were not able to be outafier night, among them Gen. Timothy P. Andrews, Gen. Weightman, Col. Seaton, Col. — Mearisigr’ ~o Andrews, Jos. H. Bradley, t. Bestor, A. Bradley. r. J. F. Callan submitted resolutions that the association be called “The Oldest Inhab- itants,” the qualifications for membership being fifty years a resident inthe District and the ap of $1 per annum. fter some debate the resolutions were amended so asto make the qualification not less than fifty years of age and not less than forty-five years a resident. Messrs. James Clephane, John F. Callan and George Savage were appointed a committee to draft a constitution, to be reported to an ad- journed meeting to be held on Thursday (Thanksgiving day) at 1 o'clock. A conversation took place among the mem- bers of an interesting character, during which it was suggested tbat each member bad many interesting incidents within his recollection which were not written in history, the relation of which, at the meetings, would make them very mteresting. Mr. Bradley had suggested a few years that all the young men of their boyhood oma be got together at Analostan Island and spend one day each year in play as they did of yore. ‘The school in which some of them had received their education, tanght by the fathers of Messrs. Nichoias and Jobn F. Callan, was alluded to, and pleasant incidents were related in this con- nection Many incidents of the war of 1512 were called ‘Up, particularly of the battle of Bladensburg, the burning of the buildings at the arsenal and the explosion at that place, which resulted in the death of a British officer and about SU men. ‘The meeting adjourned to meet on Thursday at one o'clock, when they expect to have a spirited gathering of the boys of 50 years ago. ee Fenrtaer Hearine.—Thomas Mason alias John Seymour, who was arrested last Wednes- day a week on the arrival of a steamer trom Richmond, and was subsequently charged by Detectives Keiley and Bigley with being the rer who robbed five rooms at the National otel some time previons to his arrest, was brought out for a further hearing yesterday be- fore Superintendent Richards. A watch and diamond ring were identified by Mr. Prince, one of the guests of the National, as his prop- erty, stolen frombisroom. The witnesses from Richmond have not arrived, nor have the prosecuting witness in other cases against the prisoner. Superintendent Richards again com- mitted bim to jail for a further hearing. The Detectives here speak of their prisoner, who claims to be & printer, asa professional West- ern Hotel thief. whose operauons have been in various large Western cites, from Cincinnati to Louisville. The watch and ring were recov- ered in Baltimore by the assistance of Detective W. P. Smith, of Baltimore. + ee Tae Jan—Crime this District—The jai yesterday contained 167 prisoners, of whic! are colored males and 12 females: #2 white males and four females; 74.are on the docket tor the December term of the court, making already, with the fifty odd cases holding over, about 125 jail cases for the grand jury tocom- mence on. There are 30 under sentence, of ‘which 6 are for 1 year, J each for 11 and 9 months, 11 for 6 months, 2 for 3 months, and 4 each for i and 2 months. it bas been the case at almost every term of court that more black persons are convicted than white, but it is very seldom that the num- ber of biacks confined awaiting trial exceed that of the whites—the first time this was the case was the lth of November, when the total number of white and black was about 200. Since the 19h of June last, when the June term just closed was commenced, 153 were con- vieted and sentenced to the penitentiary, of which number 5 were pardoned and 141 safely Gelivered tothe Albany penitentiary. . When Father returned to Washington he found his confreres at St. Deminic’s contem- plating the erection of a Church tothe honor and glory of God, which would be an orna- ment to our city and worthy the Capital of a great Nation. He immediately concurred in the design, and to forward the noble undertak- ing gave his beautiful horse “Charlie,” that bore him through every campaign from Fred- facet to Richmond, to be raffled for that urpose. Phe superb horse, (now to be seen at Kele- ber & Pywell’s Stables) worth from $500 to $1,000, will be a big prize to win for the trifling cost of the chance. ——_e——_- {MPERISHU ABLE TEETH.—Can the teeth beren- dered imperishable? And he, too, toved her passfigly well, But how to get her he could not tell: But he happened to hear of Smith & Brothers, And sent for a suit to surpass all others.
