It seems that cer- tain prisoners, serying under sentence of mili- tary courts-martial, and e in what is called the dead-head shop, disobeyed the risonrules. Deputy Warden Dean sent word for the offenders to go to the office, intending to put them In the dungeon. Understanding his design, they sent word back to the deputy warden that if he wanted them he would have totake them by force. In the meantime they armed themselves with clubs, and when the deputyarrived they met him with defiance. The guards were sent for, and on their arrival the Trisoners resisted, and in the affray Warden an broke the head of one of the men with bis cane, and one of the guards shot another of the prisoners, wounding him severely.
