NG STAR. Virginia Methodist E ference Third Day.—Bishop Early presided. The de- votional exercises were by Rev. John E. Ed- wards ana Rey. Dr. Sargent, of the East Balti- more Conterence. Rev. Mr. Reed and Rev. Mr. Bruton, of the North Carolina Conference, were introduced. Dr. Sargent, of the East Bal. timore Conference, briefly addressed the con- | ference. He said he had come to witness the proceedings of the Vid Virginia Methodist Con- | ference, and to shake the hands of his breth- Ten. He felt very happy to tread the soil of the Old Dominion again, and thanked God for the return of peace. The report from the Publishing House at Nashville, was read. The commencement of the publication of the Nashville Christian Adro- cate is contemplated at the earliest practicable moment. Benjamin Hawkins was discontin- ued at his own request, on account of ill health. The following preachers who bad travelled two years, passed examination of character, and We received into full connection :— Wesley CO. Hammond. Thomas P. Wise, Francis M. Ed- ward, Thos. M. Beckbam, Wm. S. Williams, E.N.S. Blogg. icy Hammond, Thomas P. Wise, and E. N.S. Blogg were elected to deacon’s orders. Recommendations to receive the following preachers into the travelling relation were read: W H. Starr, from the Lynchburg dis- trict, and Herbert T. Bacon, from Danville dis- trict. These gentlemen came forward and were regularly admitted by the bishop. The following local preachers were elected to deacon’s orders: Thomas H. Campbell, from the Amherst cirenit; Andrew W. n, from the Danville circuit; George W. Matthews, from the Lancaster circuit; Levi D. Travers, {rem the Eastern Shore ot Virginia. Beverly Waugh Dougherty, formerly of this Conference, but recently of the East Baltimore Conference, who had located, was readmitted imto the travelling connection in this Confer- ence Norfolk and Richmond were advocated, re- ectuvely, as a proper place for the meeting of the next Conference. A brother, in eloquent- ly urging Noriolk as the better place, inciden- tally alluded to Norfolk's celebrated oysters, and tha. argument settled the question two to one against “Union Station, Richmond.” Bishop Early presented a letter from a Meth- Odist miseionary in China, which was read the secretary. The missionary had t afflicted, having lost his wife, and h: much for the want ot funds. He desired to know what was to become of the China mis- sion. Ray A large majority of the preachers here are in favor of many of the reforms proposed. Mr. Duncan, one of the leading minds of the con- ference, is understood to favor reform, but not - going perbaps as far as Mr. Edwards, who is looked to as the champion of the reform move- He is able, eloquent and yery sharp. He is the keenest debater of the conference. The preachers and people of the Methodist Church in the State all cry out for reform, and why should they not have it! eee Baltimore Markets, November 27. Gram—Nothing of importance was done in white wheat, but prices cloeed nominally un- changed, viz: Inferior and common 225a235 cents, fair'o very good 240a260 cents, and prime to choice 2 2-5 cents. Inferior and ordinary red sold at 210a215 cents, and fair to very good do. at 220245 cents, the market leaving off steady. Supply of Corn liberal, some 32,500 bushels white and 9,40 bushels yellow being offered. Of the former variety 20,000 bushels were placed at S9a% cents, upwards of 4,000 bushels bringing the extreme rate, and 10,000 bushels at Sia>7 cents, the inside figure for damp and inferior, and the latter for very fair samples, an advance of 2ad cents on previous sales.
