The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company put its new schedule inio effect on Monday last, and we learn that it is successfully work- ing in its much improyed facilities for the trayel between the Eastand West by our city. For the first time since the has been opened to Wheeling, we believe, it has now three through first-class trains in each direc- tion between Baltimore and Washington and Wheeling and Parkersburg, with prompt and close connections at the two latter points, and at Benwood to and from all ions of the West, throngh the agency of the Central Ohio, the Marietta, and the Oleyeland and Wheeling Roads. with their affiliating lines. This puts the Baltimore and Ohio line, there- fore, at a high mark, with the large increase of facilities and the decidedly superior advan- tages which it thus presents for passenger travel. By its rapid improvement in double track, the rebuilding, in permanent iron work, the many bridges of a temporary nature that bad been destroyed during the war, the addi- tion of more than fifty new and superior pas- senger care, and some thirty locomotives, adapted to high speed for passenger service, the hne has fitted itself for assuming at once a first-class position as a great through route for passengers, as fully as it had already proven itself for many years as a successful and prompt carrier of freights. Our advertising columns will show the hours of departure of the trains, which seem to be well adapted to the public wants, starting for the West at *.15 &.m., and at2and 840 p.m, daily. The 2 p. m. train is an entirely new addition to the usual advantages of the road, and, running at increased speed, is called the “Cincinnati Express Train”—its passengers being due at that: point at 6 o’clock on the day after leaving Baltimore, or in twenty-eight hours only from our city to the Queen Uity of the West. From Cincinnati the corresponding train departs at 6 p.m, daily, and is due at Balti- more about 10 a m. on the following day— being only twenty-eight hours in the easterly direction. One of the other trains is called the “Halti- more and St. Louis Express,” but the third, or morning train, also makes admirable connec- Uons, both for St. Louis and Cincinnati, as well as Chicago and the Northwest, and Louis- ville, Nashville, and Memphis, en the Sonth- west. It isa matter of no small importance to our community, and to the largely increased travel between Washington and the Great West, that such enlarged advantages should be presented by our leading railway line, and the improye- ment tbus presented is hailed by us with much satisfaction and with every wish for its abun- dant success.—Baltimore American, FINaNCIAL.—The New York Commercial of the Sth says that the stock specniation is for the moment checked, and prices have taken a downward turn.
