Mr. Lincoin. Board of Aldermen.—The board met, and was called to order by Recorder Cox. A resolution of the Common Council, 2p- pointing Messrs. Hyde, Craig and Bronaugh & committee on the part of that board to act in conjunction with a similar oonnatine oft board, and consider and repor ta able to the occasion, was agreed to; and Re- corder Cox and Alderman Berry were ap- inted. Perhe committee having met, reported the fol- lowing resolutions; which were unanimously a ecaeel by ge Board of Aldermen and Board of Common Couficil of Georgetown, That we have received with sensation of profound sorrow, the imtelligence of the assassination of the President of the United States, and of the das- | tardly attack upon the Secretary of State. That whether regard to the lofty station of the vic- tim, or his personal character and virtues, the crime is to be reprobated as One unparalleled in the history and tradition of the Republic, and as one which shocks the enlightened spirit of the age, and merits the unqualified execration of ail mankind. That in the death of President Lincoin we deplore the loss of & great and good man, a ‘wise, upright and magnanimous ruler, whose | life, by common consent of his adherents and | opponents, was at this crisis of inestimagle | value to his country; whose far-reaching statesmanship, proverbial gentleness of heart, and disposition to temper justice with mercy, | afforded the surest pledge of the speedy exter- mination of the rebellion, the honorabie pacifi- cation of our country, and the restoration of fraternal relations with our erring bretnren of the South. That we tender our heartfelt sympathy to Ris bereaved family, and in testimony of our zense of the national bereavement, the public offices and schools of the town be draped in mourning, and the members and officers of this corporation will attend the funeral of the Pres- identina body, and wiil wear crape on the Jef: arm for thirty days. Thst our heartfelt sympathy and support | are eminently due and are hereby tendered to our present President, Andrew Johnson, on his sudden call to the discharge of the high and important duties of his office; and we haroby tender to him the expression of onr <unfidence in his ability te die harge them, under God, to the beet interests of the American people. Mr. Craig moved the appointment of a joint committee of three members of this board and two from the Aldermen to consider the sub- ject, and report for the approval of the boards measures suitable for the occasion; which was agreed to, and by message transmitted to the Aidermen. Messrs. Hyde, Craig and Bronaugh Were appointed by this board. Mr. Hyde, trom the joint committee, after consultation, reported the resolutions 28 adopt- ed by the Aldermen, and they were unani- mously concurred in. Mr. Stake moved the appointment of a joint committee of two Aldermen and three mem- bers ef the Common Ceuncil, to make arrange- ments for attending the funeral of the late President; which was adopted, and Messrs. Stake, Mitchell and Craig, were appointed on the part of this board. Mr. Stake moved that when the boards ad- journ—the Aldermen concurring—it ghall be till Tuesday, at © o’clock p.m; which was Bgreed to, and the board adjourned.
