S. steamer Mohican gotleave to come ashore fora day, to see the sights in the great Metropolis. As usual with tars, &ftera ieng cruise, they took in a fall cargo of grog, after which they found their ‘way to Hooker's Division. They had not been long in that notorious locality when the whis- key, which was evidently of the fighting va- Tiety, began to takeits effect upon them; and they began to take possession of the whole di- Vision, with the ranches, women, whiskey and even themen. The poiice of the Second Ward turned out to capture the tars, who were bran- dishing their sheath knives, and presenting a very formidable front A merry fight ensued ‘with the police, but they were tuo many for the boys, and succeeded in capturing seven and locked them up in the station house. ‘There is always some sympathy for a sailor in trouble; and when the boys get sober and found ont where they were, they exhibited signs of penitence, and the officers, though several of them had received some pretty se- vere kicks and blows in the conflict, did not care to prosecute them, and Justice Miller dismissed them upon their promise toreturn to the steamer immediately. ae THE Mernorourran City RAiLway.—It Will be seen by an advertisement in another column, that from and after Saturday next, the Ist of April, the fare for passengers on the Metropolitan City Railway will be seven cents af paid to the Conductors, and less than six cents ee by tickets, which can be procured at the offices of the Company, on 17th street and Capitol Hill. This increase of fare has become necessary on account of the high tax levied on passengers by the Government and the heavy expenses incurred for labor and in roviding for a large number of horses. hough the increase is less than is allowed te this company by the late act of Congress, it is the purpose of the Directors, as we learn, to reduce the rates atasearly a day as possible after the prices of provender shal! have been brought within ordinary limits, oa es LarcEny.—Last night John Sisso and a friend, both of the V_R.©., fell into company with two colored damsels, Alberta Creak and Ellen Thompson, who invited the soldiers to their house.
