Chaney was afterwards arrested and taken be- fore Justice Boswell. The evidence in the case was tbat Chaney and the colored woman called each other hars several times, when the col- ered woman reached down, got a stone, and drew back to strike Chaney; but Chaney moved more quickly than the woman struck her first, and che tell Her throat was badly cut on the right side, asif by a knife, but no one present saw Chaney have aknifein his hand After she fell, Chaney walked a short distance with his hands in his pockets, then returned, kicked the woman on the heed, and again walked away. Justice Boswell committed him to jail to await the result of the injuries inflicted on the woman. Dr. Buckley was sent for and dressed the wound, which is regarded as quite dangerous ea EL CuAnGE OF SwinpLine.—Monday, officer Coomes arrested Amanda Johnson, colored, on the charge of being concerned in swindling Bolivar Bowles. The latter was lately em- ployed in the army, and a few days since was discharged, receiving about #19. He fell in with Jos. N. Johnson and the above, aud they persuaded him, as he alleges, to buy a suit of clothes and a watch, and in his purchases he got cheated. James Goodart, aclothier’s clerk, ‘was summored, but failed to appear, when he was brought up on an attachment, and Justice ‘Walter examined the case, when he dismissed Jobn-on and his wife, and held Goodart to bail for court to answer the charge of swindling. ————— OrrHans’ Court, Judge Purcell.—Yesterday letters of administration were issued to Mary 1 Wiison on the estate of Stephen B.
