A private dispatch, dated Gordon, half-past 2o’clock, states that at that hour the enemy were within 2 miles ot Gordon. They had burned the chemical werks, a lumber train and a foundry at Griswoldville. A Confederate farce in sufficient numbers to meet them were at Gordon. The force of the enemy was bata raiding party. Since the above was in type we learn that a force of the enemy occupted Gordon yesterday. The whole available force of the community is under arms, and ready at a moment’s notice for the trenches, The enemy are believed to be east of the city, about thirty miles distant. Tho direction of their march is uncertain. They are reported to have a wagon train eight miles long. Many are of the opinion that they intend to leaye Macon unmolested, fearing to attack the large force gathered here, and the splendid fortifications which eurround the city. One thing is certain. Macon is to be defended to the last, and those best informed believe it can be held against any force Sherman can bring against it. There are no Yankees on the railroad be- tween this point and Griffin. Hardee and Beauregard at Macon—Whois un Front of Sherman? The Outrage on Little Octavia Rosseau. ARREST OF A PERSON ON SUSPICION OF BEING . THEGUILTY PARTY. The outrage of the person of the little dangh- ter of Mr. Charles Rosseau, on Thursday eve- ning last, on Capitol Hill, which resulted in her death on Friday evening last, has excited the community to a high pitch of indignation, and probably never before has there been such active efforts made to ferret out the guilty party asin this instance by the detectives, Military and Metropolitan, and the various military offi- cers. The detectives, Messrs. Clarvoe and McDevy- itt, and others of the Metropolitan force, and the Military officers and detectives, have been untiring in their exertions to discover the per- petrator of this damnable outrage, working night and day, and making a minute examina- tion of the soldiers in the various camps and barracks abont the city; and several parties have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in_tbe affair. = Tust night, one of the detectives arrested John W. Lusby, alias Tobe, on suspicion of being the guilty party, at his house, on Sth street east, near the Navy Yard, and heis now 4 austody, certain circumstances leading to the pelief that he is the guilty party. It ts Stated that the evidence against Lusby, who is * beiler-maker, employed in the Navy Yard, and who is a married man, is entirely circum- stantial, but is very strong.
