Sharretts reported that by direction of the committee he had visited Alexandria, and had had an interview witha party whe pro- posed to furnish recruits to fill up the quota of ihe ward. He (Mr.S.) had no doubt the men could be speedily raised if the money was Zorthcoming. " Mr. Larner corroborated Mr. Sharretts’ state- Ment as to the possibility of obtaining the men. He believed they would receive a satistactory Baswer on Wednesday, (to-day.) Gen. Fry Mr. L. stated) had postponed sending draft Rotices to Georgetown, because there was a prospect that they would fill theirquota. The same leniency had been extended to the Third ‘Ward, and he thought now every effort should be made to raise the required amornt of money to secure recruits. Twenty-five hundred dol- dars in addition to the amount of money now on hand would clear the ward and put ina re- cruit for each man. Mr.L. did not believe anything could be expected trom the Councils, for the supplementary bill introduced would only giveeach man about #63. The ward must therefore depend upon itself; and Mr. Larner inyited some proposition leoking to the raising of money. “ Mr. Sharretts urged the ward to do some- thing at once. He had come here night after night, and it was the same thing over, and no action was taken. He was willing to continue to work if the association would do something, © would not come here another night to be y mere child’s play. Heretofore it was all now let it be work. Wolt moved the appointment of a com- ot twenty-five to canvass the ward, and lieved the $2,500 or $3,000 required could by Wednesday night. If the ward’s quota was not now filled, there would inevita- bly be another draft. r. Ogden did not believe the committee ‘would accomplish anything in the way of col- dections. He for one would not serve. Mr. Wolf's motion prevailed and gentlemen ‘Were asked to volunteer as collectors. Some = asked if the money could not be wed. Mr. Bartlett opposed that unless there was Some guarantee that it would be paid. The Jnoney could be obtained if two or three gen- tlemen would endorse, but no one would take the endorsement of the ward itself. An elderly gentleman in the back part of the asked if the associziion was now working to clear the whole ward, orto aid only such members as had contribdted. ‘The Chair stated that the object now was to clear the whole ward. Out of the 56 drafted not more than 15 soldiers would be obtained by accepted men or substitutes, and another draft ‘would be inevitable. Mr. Shedd, one of the drafted men, said he had been accepted. He had contributed his mite, and sow asked to be protected, as prom- ised by the association. He wason the eve of being putinto the barracks, and he wanted to weatonce what the association would do im. He thought they were doing more fe who had not contributed than for fted men who had given what the: He only demanded his rights. He ha he association under a promise that he be protected, and he now demanded tection. ‘olf, Mr. Sharretts, Mr. McKean and thought Mr. Shedd was reflecting un- | ly on thecommittee. They would heip the men to the amount on hand, but thought Itbest to make an effort to clear the whole Br. Shedd disclaimed any intention of re- @cting upon the committee. He only wanted ite committee to do something positive. A number of gentlemen here guaranteed money amounting in the aggregate to fovided the men could be raised. Ogden did not think it feasible to collect ount required, and he submitted a prop- that one half of the funds on hand be among such of the contributors as had fted, and the other half be retained to among such members as may be ‘in case of another draft. proposition was opposed by many Ps soteehs ‘while others asserted that it was thing but’ simrple jusitce to those who had been drafted. - . ‘Volunteer collectors not coming forward, the Chair was authorized to appoint the com- Mittee, and it was instructed to make every, effort and report to-night, and if unsuccess- ful i the collection, the money in hand will be divided, as per Mr. Ogden’s resolution. 5 — le Lrxcotny AND JounNsoN MEETING IN THE SixTH_ WarpD.—The regular meeting of the East Washington Lincoln and Johnson Asso- ciation was held last evening at Odd Fellows’ Hail, Nayy Yard, Mr. Wm.
