NEGLECT SOMEWHERE.—The water in the Georgetown division was very low this morn- ing; the mills are stopped, the boats cannot get to the coal docks; and the hands were standing about idle, with plenty of work to do. The resuit was that there was more hard $wearing near the Collector’s office this morn- ing than has been heard in that vicinity for years past. The Borden Uo. has sent a force of hands to the feeders above town to try to increase the supply. This lowness of water is very dis- advantageous to the mills and docks. Tus FAIRBANKS ALL RigHT.—The steamer Fairbanks, about tke safety of which some uneasiness was manifested, arrived safely at her wharf yesterday. She was due last Thurs- day, and the reason of her delay was the fact that she met with. very heavy weather, and went into the breakwater, mouth of Delaware Bay, on Tuesday. After starting out, the weather being thick, fears were entertained that her coal would not last to the Capes, and she went into the breakwater again, for coal. A number of large vessels also went into the breakwater for safety at the same time. No ‘will probably not be deemed advisable to holdt the ground acquired. Gen. Mott’s Division, Second Corps, which ‘Was on the extreme left, pushed on this morn- ing and occupied a line of breastworks, about three fourths of a mile in advance of their former position, and with the ‘portion of the dine on the right, continued to swing graduall around towards the enemy until 3 o'clock this afternoon, when they advanced directly against the next line of works, which was not less than a mile and a half in the rear of the one taken this morning. This movement was intended only as a de- Monstration, and as the enemy opened such a fire both of artilery and musketry as to show thatan assanit would meet with determined Tesistance, our troops at once retired. For the time during which they were exposed to the Rebel fire its effect was quite severe, and about one hundred of our men were killed and ‘wounded. 7 Another demonstration was made at the same time by Gen. Ayres, whose division ad~ vanced about a mile and a half in front of their ‘works, and approsehed within a short dis. tance of those of theenemy, A detachment of one hundred men of the 192d Pennsylvania regiment, the old Bucktails, supported by the Regular brigade, actually entered one of the rebel forts. Their object in geena so ‘was mere- ly that of observation, and this being accom- lished they retired, as did the remainder of e division, from the fort just mentioned, The lead works near the Weldon Railroad were Re and appeared to be about a mile dis- nt.
