It ‘was suggested that there were a good many shops owned and controlied by colored men, where work was invariably done at less than fixed prices of other shops controlled by whites. It was desirable that something should be suggested to these colored shop, in in order aS ay might adopt the. prices o: Mr. ‘Murphy offered a resolution fixing the charges for work at the following rates, viz: Plain ymyae ‘set, B2: toeing new shoes, per set, $2.50; ig old shoes, $1.75; removing old shoes, $1.50; bar shoes, 75 cents each, Mr. Murphy thenghi ihese prices should be adopted at once. li-wasabsolntely necessary that the above prices‘should be fixed, for atthe Exigent prices it was im) ible to live. Ef any one did not chi to pay the price, they could go to the colored’ rect eho! ut after a trial or two at the latter shops they would soon return. The resolution fixing the above as the etan- Gard prices was unanimously adopted. Mr. Murphy said the above soate of erioes andthe names of those who agreed to it, should be advertised in the Star until the next Teeting, and thereafter the names of all boss blacksmiths who agreed to the scales should be Bernese in the same paper for onefmonth. ~ Bennett said the Star seemed to be the Fessler ‘ea paper here, and one Which was uni- and therefore it was only neces- sey to yinnke the publication, he supposed, in - Mr. ‘Mar ‘urphy said that was so. fo only paper body’ Tead the Star, and it was the only paper that had‘taken an interest in these m Associations. All the working men would vote for Dick Wal- Jack. After gome other remarks of the above char- acter, it was resolved to make the publication in the Star. A resolution was adopted thet if any one left ‘the shops of members of the association on ac- count of increased prices and went to the colored shops and had their work done, that if they returned to the white shops, they should be charged twenty-five cents over and above the regular scale. On motion, it was resolyed that the names of ali parties refusing to pay their bills for horse-; ostne. shall be repor: to the associa- tion. A committee, consisting of Messrs. Adjourned to meet again next Monday night. Fick SREY ULES CES Cuapce or Ronpine A BLinD Doctor.—A ‘young man named Oharles Lemon, was before Justice Boswell on the charge of robbing W. S. Woodbury, a blind doctor, who has his office atroom 21, Washington Building, corner of Seventh street and Pennsylvania avenue, of twenty-eight dollars on Thursday last. From the doctor’s evidence it appears that Lemon and a woman named Margaret McCar- thy, came to his office on the day in question itor the purpose of purchasing a stove—they being on the eve of commencing housekeeping. ‘While there they all got to drinking. and even- tually they remained all night in the doctor’s room. Before retiring, the doctor gota friend to count up his money, which amounted to eighty-three dollars, bu’ "ne subsequently dis- covered that the roil was not as large as when he put it away, and he took it toa friend who could count but fifty-five. The parties moved the stove and paid for it. and after the doctor discovered his loss he accused Lemon. and the latter promised to make it good, but failing to do so, the doctor procured a warrant, on which he was arrested by officer Vernon and taken before Justice Boswell, who committed him to jail for court. a THE GOVERNMENT BURIAL-G ROUND.—Cap- tain Moore, who has charge of the burial of aoiaare im this city, has issued the following order “In order to prevent the unpleasant odor caused by the removal of the dead from their gTAves, and as 8 sanitary measure, no exhuma- tion will be ‘fitted at the Government burial- greasy m and after May 1, 1864, until ‘October 1, 1864. This step was ieairid necessary as a sanitary ‘measure; and Capt. Moore deserves the thanks of the community for his attention tothe health and comfort of the living as well as his regard for the secure repose of the “brave departed.” Bawpy Hovses.—The Grand Jury seems to ‘be acting promptly on the suggestions of Judge £isher asto the propriety of indicting parties renting Bouses to be used for bawdy purposes, as yesterday morning tbe foliowing appeared in court and gave bail for their appearance:—W.
