The New Orleans + Era’? om the ‘\.Sitna- tien*’—Our Forces again én the Advance— Activity of the Rebels, etc. New Yor, April 28.—The steamer America from New:Orleans on the 19th, has arrived. The Era of the 19th contains late news from Gen. Banks’ army. An expedition under Kirby Smith, which, with. a portion of Admiral Porter’s fleet, went up the river previous to the three days’ battles, safely returned on the 13th. The greater ion of the rebel army is Mansfeld. and on the river opposite that at Conshata Shute, a rebel force was sta ‘which had ‘about fonrteen gansin a battery along the river bank. The gunboats in return- ing were obliged to run the guantlet of those guns. In the fighting which fo followed their attempt to pass, the rebels were compelled to fall back from the river, giving the trang) aclear passage. HARRISBURG, Pet 28.—The Union State Convention, ealled for the purpose ef placing in nomination the electoral ticket, electing delegates at large to the Baltimore Nationa? Convention, and to take suc& action as it may deem proper in reference to the approaching President ial campaign, met here to-day. There ‘was a full attendance of delegates. Henry Johnson was elected temporary chairman. Afternoon Session. The committee on permanent organization made a report nominating Mr. Wm. V. Law- rence, of Washingten county, for president, and the usual number of vice presidents and secretaries. The report was adopted, and Mr. Lawrence, on taking the chair, delivered an address, in which he eulogized the Union party as being the only one able to save the ccuntry, and said that nineteen-twentieths of all the soldiers in the army belonged to this organiza- tion and favored the re-election of Abraham Lincoln. (Applause.] Resolutions were adopted that electors at large be instructed to support Abraham Lincoln for President, and to oppese all efforts to postpone the Baltimore Conyen- HE and that one of the hardest blows that id be inflicted on the rebels would certain- ly be the re-election of Mr. Lincoln. Mr. Pen- ny moved to proceed to ballot for four delegates to the Baltimore Convention. Simon Cameron, Alexander McClure, Mor- row B. Lowry, and W. W. Ketchum were de- clared elected, The convention then proceeded to nominate two Senatorial electors, and Thomas Cunning- ham, of Beaver, and Morton McMichael were chosen by acclamation. At theevening session, district Ciectors and members of State Oentral Committee were chosen.
