This year they proposed (we take it) to show that the daughters of Michigan are quite as well worth jJooking at as the sons; and the display o, beauty last night at the ball and supper (a the National) was well calculated to aemon- strate the fact. Da- vidson, in Montgomery county, Md, and the Doctor pursued the parties to this city and through the exertions of Sergeant Hepburn and Officer Vernon, the horse was recovered, the thieves having placed it in a house on the Island. Dr. Davideon left with the officers a description of the parties, and last nigttt they succeeded in arresting John T. Elmore and John T. Magruder, each ot whom accused the other of the act. The assail- ants would have probably beaten him badly, but Mr. Callen succeeded in knocking down the leader of the party, and escaped from them. Mr. Summers, residing on Eighth street east, near south B street, was attacked abou: a week previously, by four soldiers, near the same place, and so badly beaten that he has sinc’ been confined to his house.
